Together, we developed a fully automated system for processing Phalaenopsis potted plants. A project where greenhouse automation and robotic automation come together perfectly.
Challenge
At OK Plant, large quantities of orchids are processed. This means: efficiently managing space, time, and people. The wish: one system that automatically circulates plant carriers, supports the stick insertion process, and sorts the plants based on the number of branches and places them in containers.
Our solution
We developed a fully automated system for the processing of potted plants. The system works as follows:
Plant carriers circulate automatically via a transport system with buffers.
- At six workstations, plants are manually staked.
- On the return route, a tilting device ensures that empty carriers are emptied of dirt.
- A smart robot system sorts the plants in trays by the number of branches and places them in containers.
- The trays are transported via three different container tracks.
- The communication regarding the product to be processed goes through ISAL, which also manages the sorting data and determines the container choice.
Why this works
- Less manual work, more overview.
- Efficient use of space in the greenhouse.
- Reliable collaboration between our technology and external software (ISAL).
- Scalable system, ready for further automation.
