Robot arm with plasma cutting technology for perfectly precise holes in tubes.

At De Vreede Techniek, we develop smart and reliable automation solutions that make production processes faster, more efficient, and more consistent. A recent project that we are particularly proud of is the realization of a fully automated system for cutting holes in steel pipes using a robotic arm and a high-quality plasma cutter.

This project has been realized in collaboration with Van der Loo Metaal.

Why automatically cut holes in pipes?

Manually creating openings in pipes takes a lot of time and requires precise alignment, marking, and cutting. Small deviations can already lead to size differences or delays in the further process.

By automating this process with a robotic arm, a solution is created that focuses on accuracy, reliability, and speed. The result is consistent quality, regardless of batch size.

How does the automated system work?

The system consists of an industrial robotic arm with an integrated plasma cutter. The robot is controlled by software that precisely calculates where and at what angle the holes in the pipes should be placed. This results in a reproducible and extremely precise cutting process.

Main benefits

Constant precision

Each hole is cut at exactly the same position, regardless of the number of tubes, batch size, or variation in the program.

Higher speed

The robotic arm operates continuously without manual intervention, resulting in higher output and fewer error-prone moments.

Safety for employees

Operators no longer need to stand close to the hot cutting process. The robot takes over the heavy and risky work.

Flexible deployability

Both small and large series can be quickly converted to a new program, making the system widely applicable in various production situations.

Collaboration with Van der Loo Metal

For this project, we worked closely with Van der Loo Metaal, which handled the production of the pipes and the associated mechanical processing.

The combination of their expertise in metalworking and our experience in robotics and automation resulted in a solution that significantly increases production quality and efficiency.

Progressive automation in the metal industry

With this project, we demonstrate that modern automation is not just about higher speed. It is primarily about accuracy, consistency, safety, and process reliability.

At De Vreede Techniek, we continue to invest in innovative techniques that help our customers make their production future-proof.
